Johnny Hamilton Todd, a 36-year-old resident of Versailles, Ky., was arrested today for distributing child pornography, a felony. The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation by the Kentucky State Police’s Electronic Crime Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
LEO reported yesterday in its print edition about statewide efforts to nab online sexual predators, and about the controversy that arises when states (like Kentucky) use vigilante justice groups to conduct online stings, a tactic popularized by the Dateline NBC show “To Catch a Predator.”
Attorney General Jack Conway’s office has not decided whether to continue using the group Perverted Justice for stings; his predecessor Greg Stumbo used them on three stings last year that resulted in 27 arrests.
