New CJ website on the horizon

Looks like Gannett’s new web template is coming to the CJ. We’re not sure quite when, but it looks like soon. Below is a screenshot of the beta version of the site. LEO obtained the link and password required to access this version earlier today. Wicked.

On first glance, it appears that Gannett’s new template — which is already working at a number of websites that put out newspapers — does nothing to alleviate the headache of a whole bunch of content slapped together on a single page. Bummer. But the only newspaper website I’ve seen that does it effectively is the NY Times, and they have a 20-person R&D team specifically for tech. That’s barely smaller than our whole staff!

Looking at the bright side, at least the new CJ site looks a little more current. But hey, we can’t really talk — LEO’s website sucks. Hopefully that’ll change soon. (SG)
