It’s the last Metro Council meeting of the year so we’re trying something new — live blogging from City Hall! On tonight’s agenda is the ethics ordinance. But first is the Democratic caucus meeting, where we’ll likely hear a discussion of next year’s council presidency choice. The Democrats have two potential candidates: current Council President Jim King, D- 10, and Councilman David Tandy, D-4, who have been playing phone tag over the past few weeks to avoid a floor fight.
UPDATE: Boy oh boy, 35-pages is a lot to read for a councilperson. Many questions and concerns about the ethics ordinance were brought up at the majority caucus meeting. What do you mean I can’t take money? What, I can’t endorse a product? The two Democrats who sit on the Ethics and Appointments Committee, Councilman David Tandy, D-4, and Bob Henderson, D-14, fielded most of their colleagues questions well, but suggested it might be tabled at the council level until next year. It’s up in the air. What are the Republicans doing downstairs?
