Metro Council Democrats elected Dan Johnson, D-21, as chair of the Democratic caucus by secret ballot. At the last minute Johnson’s only opponent, Councilwoman Judy Green, D-1, conceded for “personal reasons” yet in the next sentence nominated herself for vice-chair.

Councilwoman Marianne Butler, D-15, was elected vice-chair, beating out Green and Tom Owen, D-9, who was nominated at the last minute by George Unseld, D-6. Now downstairs to the Committee of the Whole.
