Lunchbox: America, f#%@ yeah!

It’s Tandy time, but ethics fight looms: The Metro Council will select its new council president tonight. The two nominees are Councilmen David Tandy, D-4, and James Peden, R-23, but we all know after getting the endorsement from the Democratic caucus, which holds a 16-member majority this year, Councilman Tandy is the favorite. If so, Tandy will walk right into a new year’s buzzsaw. Tonight’s Metro Council meeting could see heavy fireworks over ethics. The debate from last year is still brewing even after council members worked on revising the ordinance for nearly eight months. Council Democrats still have questions and concerns. Council Republicans are fed up with the delays and the dilluting of the ordinance. However, with a 10-member minority all they can do is threaten to fillibuster into the wee hours. Tandy is the co-sponsor of the new ethics ordinance and worked hard with Councilman Ken Fleming, R-7, to save it last year in committee, but though he says he’s pleased with the ordinance as it stands, Tandy has not stood up to members of his caucus. We’ll be live from City Hall tonight blogging the whole thing, so stay tuned.

Urban Legend: DeVone Holt’s idea of promoting Louisville’s hidden urban treasures has been a nice one. Formerly of Greater Louisville Inc., Holt started a consulting firm, The Urban Insight Agency, which features a lot of west Louisville’s best and brightest spots. But it would help if the skyline he uses on his e-mail subscription list and website was actually Possibility City.

Schocked House: The 111th Congress is perhaps the oldest in U.S. history. Your average House Representative is 57 and Senator 63. Therefore, Rep. Aaron Schock is getting all the Gen-Y hype. The 27-year-old Republican from Illinois is the youngest member of Congress and that alone is getting him more national attention than the freshman will probably get in his entire career.

BarackBerry: The president-elect is still fighting to keep the BlackBerry. In a recent interview, Obama told CNBC the precious device gives him the ability to stay in touch with people outside the White House and is one of the “ways of staying grounded.”

Paging Dr. Gupta: Obama’s reported selection of CNN anchor and TIME columnist, Dr. Sanja Gupta as the surgeon general adds more star power to the new administration’s super-cabinet, but will it lead to the White House? Meanwhile the president-elect’s first cabinet confirmation hearing starts today as Obama’s Health and Human Services secretary choice, former Sen. Tom Daschle, goes before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
