Weather woes: More snow today, but this weekend the mercury is supposed to rise, hopefully melting some of this pesky ice that continues to wreak havoc on the region. Meanwhile, LG&E crews are working to restore power to 172,000 homes and businesses in the region, an effort that could take up to 10 days.
Plaza problems: Metro Council is understandably concerned about liens filed against developers of the $490 million Museum Plaza development, which is currently stalled due to the economic crisis.
The Mitch is back: U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., waxed political during the Republican National Committee’s annual meeting Thursday, warning, “The Republican Party seems to be slipping into a position of being more of a regional party than a national one … I didn’t sign up to be a member of a regional party.”
Bye bye Blago: A long and impassioned speech in front of Illinois state lawmakers was not enough to keep embattled Gov. Rod Blagojavich from being impeached. The state senators called him everything from devious and cynical to crass and corrupt, before voting unanimously to give him the boot.
Dress down day: President Obama is opting for a more casual dress code at the White House, abandoning his predecessor’s rule of requiring a coat and tie in the Oval Office.
Marijuana on the map: Damn technology! It seems law enforcement in Switzerland spotted a massive pot plantation thanks to Google Earth. The police ended up seizing 1.2 tons of marijuana.
