No Fairness: State Sen. Gary Tapp, R-Shelbyville (circa 1925), has proposed SB 68, which would limit those who could adopt or provide caregiver services to children in Kentucky to only married couples. Naturally, the legislation is targeted toward prohibiting gays and lesbians from adopting kids — because, you know, Kentucky hasn’t asserted its hate of such people enough already. ”We literally can’t afford to play politics with these children’s lives,” Fairness director Chris Hartman said in a press release issued this morning. “Hundreds of children are awaiting adoption each day in Kentucky, and it should be our politicians’ jobs to find them a home, not to categorically eliminate potential loving parents with an anti-gay political attack.” The bill would also prohibit non-married hetero couples from adopting kids, further blurring the line between Tapp’s total idiocy and his simple fear of contracting The Gay. Eyesore: We just learned, fancy enough, that Metro’s Housing and IPL departments are regular readers of LEO’s “Eyesore” feature, which shows a dilapidated home/office/business/structure in the city and offers a bit of background as to how it got there, how many times the city’s cited its owners, and so forth. Maybe that’s where this is coming from: The Housing Department has announced it will target 2,400 dilapidated structures and may hit owners with triple the tax bill for letting the crap get to their properties. Time to get pretty, L’ville.
Everybody’s talking about it: Did you see Diane Sawyer’s piece on Appalachia? If not, go check it out now and learn about “Mountain Dew Mouth.” Speaking of mouths, I just threw up a little in mine.
Cashing in: Wondering what we’re spending all this taxpayer money stimulating? Check it out.
