Yet More Layoffs…

That’s the word at the Lexington Herald-Leader, which has just announced today that it will purge another 15% of its workforce — as part of the overarching onslaught of McClatchy-sanctioned cuts — which brings the grand total of its cut workforce to 476%. I wonder if the atmosphere in their offices (or for that matter the atmosphere of any large and flailing daily news organ) is anything like this clip from 1987’s “Broadcast News,” as seen below:

Maybe…(sans Jack Nicholson)?

Even better, there’s a scene shortly after this one wherein a veteran staffer, having just been fired after decades of employment, is asked by his superior if there’s anything he can do for him. The recently fired newsman replies, “No, but I certainly hope that you die soon,” then smiles and walks out of the office.

If only real layoffs were that funny. And devoid of blood…
