Conway Sweeps Local Labor Off Its Feet

Who can say no to that face, those eyes, or them left-wing credentials?

Attorney General Jack Conway secured more endorsements Monday for his U.S. Senate bid in 2010, mainly from his home county.

UFCW Local 227, Teamsters Local 89, Jefferson County Teachers Association (JCTA), UFCW IN-KY State Council, UFCW Distillery Workers Council, UFCW Chemical Workers Council and Teamsters Joint Council 94 released a joint statement today. [via the Hebert-Arnold Combine, where the rest of the statement can be read]

If anything, we wonder how his Republican Democratic primary opponent Daniel “Somehow, I’m A Doctor” Mongiardo will react… Working people recognize that my opponent is a champion for their interests…Hmmm… nope, that won’t do at all. How about, Working people have been hoodwinked by my opponent’s eminently superior-jawline, which isn’t that great anyways... Shit, that was awful.… let’s see…

Oh, I know! Danny should try: Working Louisvillians are out of step with the rest of the Commonwealth because not all of them live in trailers and love the Bible like good Kentuckians obviously do, therefore my opponent is merely the spirit of Jimmy Hoffa made flesh incarnate because Joe Arnold said so on his blog. An exorcism is in order.

But seriously, forks: Labor credentials (especially Jefferson County labor credentials) mean little in Kentucky-wide politics. The KDP is, in large part, full of DINOs; remember how Kentucky’s Dem. voter ID heavily outweighed the GOP’s last November, yet we still picked Sen. Coot and Gov. Dumbass? (Or did you forget, too?) If Conway manages to get the decisive rural vote (Wearing overalls and sweating over a bale of hay; shooting at something small and defenseless in a woodland area; riding an ATV around the rim of Red River Gorge, etc.), it will have little to do with the support of unions — which are generally held in low regard by the electorate here.

Most likely, this primary will be decided by (1) how many Kentucky Democrats aged 40-and-older die before next spring, (2) How badly Mongiardo makes himself look, or both, IMHO.

This primary will be decided by 1) how much money Conway can raise and 2) how soon he can get up on TV.

One would hope, TJ. However, this is Kentucky; despite Conway’s Harvey Dent-esque appeal, lack of baggage, and bar-none appearance of being the best man for the job, the best man for the job so rarely wins here. Plus, Mongiardo’s coal-friendly/gay-hatin’ nature will play far better, I think, in the state-at-large than it already does here in Librul Louisville.

But it’s WAY TOO EARLY TO EVEN BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION MY CAPS LOCK BUTTON IS BROKEN OMG!!!!11!1!
