Across the river is a far-off, magical land known to laymen as “Jeffersonville.” Occasionally something happens there that is so strange, so bizarre, that word of it quickly travels over the Ohio and straight into our innernettes.
Like the case of Larry Wilder, a Jeffersonville city council lawyer whom was apparently so intoxicated after a joyous night of drinking with friends and colleagues at 4th Street Live that he ended his evening by passing out in a neighbor’s trash can.
The cops were then called by Wilder’s neighbor, and they escorted escorted Wilder home — yet not before snapping a few photos of him and later disseminating them to local media outlets.
Bing!
Galligan said the police department is still investigating to determine which officers released the photos, and is working on regulations to make it clear that officers can’t distribute photos they personally take on the job to the news media.
“I apologize personally and as mayor to the children and family of Larry Wilder,” Galligan said. [via The C-J]
What’s funny in all of this (besides everything) is that nobody is laughing. Not Wilder. Not Wilder’s kids. Not Jeffersonville Mayor Thomas Galligan. And not the citizens of his fair berg, whom Galligan believes are so dumb that they might refrain from utilizing 911 in the future because a police officer could take their picture: “I don’t want this on Twitter! Let the fucking house burn!”
In the end, this may be a story about the disconnect between a city official’s public persona and who they really are, warts and all. Or a story about the public’s ability to trust the assholes whose salaries they pay. Or how totally awesome PR this is for the city of Jeffersonville. Or how an evening at 4th Street Live will kick your ass. Selah…
Here’s footage of a press conference wherein Mayor Galligan just looks really pissed off and tired. Try not to laugh.
