It’s official: LEO expecting a sister alt-weekly

Our family is growing: SouthComm Inc. — owner of LEO Weekly and other news and niche publications — is purchasing Nashville’s alternative newsweekly, the Nashville Scene, from Village Voice Media. In addition, SouthComm is acquiring Nfocus magazine, a publication covering Nashville’s social scene. The deal is expected to close on Friday.

Prior to founding SouthComm in 2007, CEO Chris Ferrell spent three years as publisher of the Nashville Scene.

Let’s hope it helps the Scene. It hasn’t been very good since you returned to Louisville, Sarah.

Thanks for the compliment (assuming that’s what it was, as opposed to you merely pointing out a coincidence).

Seriously, though, I have kept up with the Nashville Scene and think the writers do great work, although I have noticed fewer short-form news stories. I would assume that might just be the result of fewer ads and therefore less space, as opposed to a shift in editorial focus.
