Allen is running for mayor

Louisville businessman Tyler Allen has filed a letter of intent with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance that allows him to begin raising and spending money in a campaign for mayor of Louisville. The letter indicates he will run as a Democrat.

This means it’s official: Allen is in.

Four other Democrats have already announced their mayoral bid — Metro Council members David Tandy, D-4, and Jim King, D-10, as well as businessman Greg Fischer and Connie Marshall. In an interview with LEO Weekly last week, local developer Chris Thieneman entered the mayoral race, becoming the first declared Republican. It has been rumored that Councilman Hal Heiner, R-19, will also jump in.

Allen, who is co-founder of the 8664 campaign, has reportedly been leaning toward running for weeks while carefully lining up support. He would not comment about the filing, but it is expected he will announce his candidacy as early as next week.
