JBS/Swift Rumored to Expand (Again?)

JBS/Swift & Company may be augmenting its swine slaughtering empire in Louisville, so suggests an article in the Central Iowa Times-Republican. Regarding its multi-million dollar expansion in Marshalltown, IA:

According to General Manager Troy Mulgrew, the refrigeration warehouse would range up to 150,000 square feet and enlist several employment positions, although he would not speculate on a sound number due to the amount of automation that would be utilized within the new processes.

… Mulgrew cited another plant location was also being considered for the expansion but it doesn’t permit Swift to construct an adequate structural size, nor does it allow rail access.

LEO has contacted JBS/Swift, but so far the question of whether this Midwestern expansion will impact its Butchertown location remains unanswered. Given the company’s history of unchecked manifest destiny in the neighborhood, anything is possible.
