Apparently some people still need closure on this, the death of President Michael Jackson::
WTVQ-TV in Lexington reports that Owingsville First Church of God Pastor Lowell Rice heard about the mural at his church. Rice approached the school officials to complain about the mural, questioning whether Jackson is an “appropriate role model.”
[Visual arts teacher Lorraine] Leadingham says midway through the painting, her principal told her to stop. She says she doesn’t understand why the painting was nixed. [AP, via C-J]
We shudder to imagine what the mural would’ve looked like, but why was it being painted in the first place? A meditation on celebrity and mortality, perhaps? The AP says Leadingham was inspired by an “artist” who visited her arts class, which is just AP-speak for “heathen liberal baby killer,” so of course Jesus was offended by this idolatry. (In other news: The economy died, too; murals pending!)
