Lunchbox: A little lunchtime news

Big money: It turns out Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s deep pockets are filled with the cash of the health care industry. Courier-Journal political reporter James Carroll reports the Kentucky senator has accepted a cool half-million dollars from 14 different health care groups and their lobbyists since 2007.

Gone green: Two Kentucky colleges scored high on a new green report card for colleges, and the University of Louisville is one of them. Both U of L and Berea College received a B+ on the 2010 College Sustainability Report Card. The grading scale was tough, with no school achieving better than an A-. The University of Kentucky received a B-, and Centre College — the only other Kentucky school to make it on the report card at all — got a C.

Speaking of U of L: The University of Louisville is continuing efforts to shed its image as a commuter school, spending millions over the past decade to provide new and improved campus housing. This year, 3,780 full-time students live on campus, compared to only 9 percent in 1998. Check out LEO’s past coverage on U of L’s efforts to make campus more campus-y.
