Lunchbox: Politics is a dirty game

Mud bath: Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo’s U.S. Senate campaign is accusing Attorney General Jack Conway of being somehow involved in the infamous “Mongiardo Tapes”, which are posted all over the Internet. In both recordings Mongiardo can be heard cursing and criticizing Gov. Steve Beshear, at one point saying that being Beshear’s lieutenant governor is like “being married to a whore.” Mongiardo’s campaign spokesman Kim Gevedon alleges that the Conway campaign has either a “direct or indirect” role in the attack. Conway says the campaign had nothing to do with it.

Father knows less: It wasn’t illegal that mayoral candidate and Metro Councilman Jim King, D-10, sent out an e-mail asking lawyers to review his daughter, District Judge Katie King’s performance, but it’s becoming apparently clear the former council president doesn’t have the best judgment when it come to helping his daughter. The Courier-Journal’s editorial board wrote a scathing piece, documenting some of Kings previous spats and suggests that he get a little self-control.

It’s (not) good to be the King: As if the public relations headache over the C-J editorial wasn’t bad enough, Metro government gadfly Ed Springston is turning the heat up on the King’s election finance investigation. The south Louisville activist and blogger dropped off information directly to the Jefferson County grand jury in regard to the ongoing investigation into hefty campaign contributions that Councilman King gave to his daughter. The Kentucky Registry of Election Finance, which recently ruled that the mayoral candidate and district judge were both guilty of unknowingly violating state election law.

Smokey and the federal bandit: U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced yesterday that federal prosecutors will no longer go after medical-marijuana users. This represents a major policy shift from the Bush Administration, which aggressively pursued users and distributors in states that had relaxed their drug laws for medial-marijuana purposes.

Soviet ghosts: Besides health care reform, President Obama has another pressing matter and observers are beginning to wonder if escalation is Obama’s only choice in Afghanistan? The country has been described as a graveyard of empires.

I was there. If true, Mongiardo should’ve known better: Fancy Farm is a goddamn zoo. Furthermore, blaming the Conway camp doesn’t erase (or distract from) the video’s contents. And having witnessed Geveden & Co.’s antics at this picnic (and in print) as well, I find it beyond ironic that he’s taking issue with this.

Maybe Mongiardo is suggesting that Conway took temporary possession of his body and made the comments in a blatant attempt to provide video and audio fodder to the liberal media.
    Sounds reasonable to me…
