AG asks governor to set three executions

This morning, Attorney General Jack Conway formally asked Gov. Steve Beshear to set execution dates for three Kentucky death row inmates: Ralph Baze, Robert Foley and Gregory Wilson.

Explaining that each of the inmates have exhausted their appeals in state and federal courts, Conway says there are no remaining “legal impediments” to prevent these men from being put to death by lethal injection.

“The horrific crimes these men committed have taken an enormous toll on the victims’ families, for whom this may bring closure,” Conway says, adding that in requesting these death warrants he is fulfilling his duty as attorney general.

The death penalty is absolutely worthless.

It’s a more expensive sentence than life without parole. 68 percent of Kentuckains are opposed to it and no Kentucky jury has a returned a death penalty verdict since 2006.

There’s the chance of exeucuting an innocent person as texas did with Cameron Todd Willingham. It’s not applied fairly–if the victim is white, the murderer is far more likely to be condemned to death than if he or she was another race. It does not deter crime.

And many studies have shown that it makes coping harder, not easier, for victim’s family members.

Couldn’t have said it any better, Zach. No reasonable person can defend use of the death penalty. Arguments in favor are fueled only by fear (it’s a deterrent), ignorance (it’s cheaper), and emotion (what if someone killed your mom) and not by logic.
