For all intents and purposes, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo is a political whore. The funny part is that, in a C-J story that all but tells you that your lieutenant governor is a political whore, their headline is woefully inadequate: “Dan Mongiardo says endorsement of U.S. Senate candidate Jack Conway a matter of trust.” Really? Prepare yourselves, True Believers, but you might be shocked to discover that, in just the second paragraph, trust has little to do with anything:
“It’s my understanding that something is happening (to resolve the dispute), but I … haven’t seen a check,” said Mongiardo, who lost narrowly to Conway in the May 18 Democratic primary.
In fact, the story mentions Mongiardo’s fixation with campaign debt retirement so much that I’m inclined to believe that whoever decided to place “trust” in the headline committed (1) an honest misnomer or (2) a journalistic dick-slap. But the telling line is this:
“It’s a shame, here we are approaching … (the annual political picnic at) Fancy Farm and this is still an issue,” Mongiardo said.
Ha! And Conway’s Republican opponent, opthamologesiologist Rand Paul, isn’t making nice with his superior, either.
It will be a hot time in Western Kentucky, for sure.

How did such a non-Republican get to be the “Republican” candidate?
The only difference in the situation with Conway and Mongiardo is that they now actually report it as essentially a bribe. Winners of primaries have always “helped” retire the debt for endorsements. It has and wil always be a bribe.
It is pathetic but sadly true nonetheless.
