A new independent mayoral poll conducted by cn|2 Politics has Democrat Greg Fischer ahead of Republican Hal Heiner in a close race for mayor of Louisville. And both major party candidates say they are happy with the results.
The political website surveyed 502 likely voters in a poll conducted by Braun Research Inc., and it shows Fischer leading by a slim margin with 41 percent, Heiner at 34 percent and independent mayoral candidate Jackie Green with 3 percent. It has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.
There are obvious differences between this survey and the first mayoral poll, which was conducted by SurveryUSA and released by WHAS-11 and The Courier-Journal earlier this month.
For instance, the WHAS/C-J poll had Heiner and Fischer tied at 45 percent with only 4 percent undecided. The cn|2 poll, however, shows that 21 percent of respondents are still on the fence. Whatever conclusions political observers draw from this recent poll or the two combined, it is clear the election is a dead heat.
