Yarmuth: It gets better

After a spate of gay teen suicides last fall, alt-weekly guru and Seattle Stranger columnist Dan Savage started the Make it Better Project It Gets Better Project aimed at LGBT youth who are dealing with constant bullying and harassment. The video campaign went viral with a number of celebrities and political leaders jumping on the wagon to cut their own versions, including Congressman John Yarmuth, D-KY, who joined other Louisvillians to cut a video for the campaign.

The issue has faded from the media spotlight, but a few weeks ago the U.S. Department of Education began investigating one of those suicides, which could reignite the debate.

Dan Savage started the It Gets Better Project, not the Make It Better Project.

Gay-Straight Alliance Network, a nonprofit organization that works directly with LGBT youth on school safety issues, launched the Make It Better Project to give youth and adults the tools they need to stop bullying and create safer schools.
