Sen. Mitch McConnell wants the Republican far-right base to like him so much that his campaign just sent out this completely irresponsible email, telling people that President Obama is about to come into their homes and confiscate their guns.
Here’s the text of the false and Alex Jones-esque email below:
Dear Patriot,
You and I are literally surrounded.
The gun-grabbers in the Senate are about to launch an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment. On your rights.
On your freedom.
Just the other night, President Obama urged them to act. And then he went one step further, spelling out the 23 different Executive Orders he will take to get your guns.
My friend, our freedom is under direct assault.
From those who want take your guns. From those who want to shred our Constitution, and as our good in friend Rand Paul from Kentucky says, from those who want to be King.
Let me tell you, Mitch McConnell is ready to lead the fight to protect your rights.
Will you stand with Mitch today?
Our Founders fought a revolution to secure our rights. They would have been appalled by what they heard from an American president the other day.
President Obama has the left wing media in a frenzy. And, like his old Chief of Staff, he is determined to not waste a crisis.
The gun-grabbers are in full battle mode. And they are serious.
What’s at stake?
There are almost too many schemes to list. But President Obama’s worst center around:
-The Feinstein Gun Ban, which will criminalize firearms by how they look.
-A thinly-veiled national gun registration scheme hidden under the guise of “background checks” to ensure federal government minders gain every bureaucratic tool they need for full-scale confiscation.
-An outright BAN on magazines holding more than 10 rounds.
-And that’s not even close to the end of it.23 new Executive Orders.
It is almost hard to believe the sheer breadth and brazenness of this attempt to gut our Constitution.
Well, Mitch McConnell is not going to stand aside.
Mitch McConnell will stand and fight. He will lead the Senate Republicans against this unconstitutional agenda, and with your help, we will prevail.
But Mitch can’t do it alone.
That’s why I am asking you to sign the attached Defense of the Second Amendment pledge today to show that you stand with me in this vital fight.
Friend, from his very first run for office, Leader McConnell has always stood strong for your gun rights. Like you and me, he firmly believes that the Second Amendment protects YOU as an individual.
And, he absolutely will not let president Obama or the Senate Democrats take that right away from us.
So please help him fight back today.
For Freedom,
Jesse Benton
Campaign Manager
Sen. Mitch McConnellP.S. President Obama and his allies are committed to eroding your Constitutional freedoms. Please sign your pledge TODAY to let him know that we stand with Mitch McConnell in opposing this gun grab.
***** UPDATE *****
Rep. John Yarmuth on McConnell’s email: “This to me is pretty much as low as you can go in terms of being irresponsible as a public official. He knows that’s not true, he’s making it up, and he’s using it for his own political benefit.”
Pretty much, yes.

“…our good in friend Rand Paul”- What’s a ‘good in’ friend?
McConnell has spent his professional career appealing to the worst instincts of Kentuckians: fear, ignorance, tribalism and self-righteousness. Kentucky deserves a senator who appeals to our better instincts.
What the hell has happened to the Republican party? Exactly when was it that they lost their effin minds? I was no fan of Ronald Reagan, but at least he acknowledged the need for common-sense gun control. Do the Republicans now think that even Reagan was waging “an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment”?
Note to Republicans: 53 percent of Americans support Obama’s proposed gun laws.

Who the fuck is Gurley L Martin and why were we subjected to SEVEN examples of his verbal masturbation? I’m sick of listening to people whose idea of FREEDOM is me being a target for some psycho with a gun.
Mitch McConnell is a diseased and rabid animal. He and his staff are an example of how low the opposition has become in this country. There are without common sense and without civil decency.
Here’s hoping Kentuckians come to their collective senses and vote McConnell out this time around. The man is behaving in an anti-American behavior.
Hmm…tough call. What do I find most offensive…mr. mcconnells cynicism, his obvious belief that people are stupid, or his overt fear mongering. It’s a tough call to make, but I find both despicable.
Funny how the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Second Amendment does, in fact, give people an individualized right to own firearms never seems to get mentioned. It’s almost as though instilling fear (thus driving out rational thought) is the main goal.
On a side note: the Patriot Act gives government the right to seize financial records, and they’re also performing warrantless e-mail and Internet use monitoring in the name of fighting terrorism. If the government wanted to create a list of gun owners for the purpose of illegally seizing their weapons, wouldn’t they have already done so using their existing access to “Big Data”?
Oh yes; those 23 executive orders! Like the one that directs the Centers for Disease Control to study deaths and injuries caused gun violence.
Will someone please show Mitch the door?
It’s time for him to crawl back under his rock.
Does this lying fool even understand what “literally” means, or what damage he’s promoting?
A Freedom is guaranteed in the second Amendment to the Constitution:
Amendment II:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The word “Militia” is also used in Amendment V where it refers to an organization.
Most importantly, in Article I, Section 8, the Constitution refers to the Militia for the first time. Here it gives Congress the power to provide for and structure the Militia, reserving for the States the power to appoint its officers and to train the Militia according to Congress’ rules.
This does not seem to guarantee an individual a right to keep and bear guns for his or her own individual purpose at all, be it hunting, self defense, or shooting other shooters.
Gurley…Me thinks it is YOU who needs to get out! You sound like a raving maniac!
Oh my goodness! Incredible article dude! Thank you
so much, However I am encountering issues with
your RSS. I don’t understand why I cannot subscribe to it. Is there anyone else getting the same RSS issues? Anyone that knows the answer will you kindly respond? Thanks!!
What has Sen. Mitch McConnell done for KYians lately??!?He voted AGAINST extending low interest rates for student loans, AGAINST
export of cheaper FDA-approved drugs from Canada. He voted with big
pharma to delay life-saving brand name drugs from going generic. He voted
AGAINST Paycheck Fairness; seems he thinks women don’t deserve to earn the
same as men in the workplace doing the same job. He consistently votes
AGAINST funding that keeps our children from being food insecure. He
consistently votes AGAINST labeling food that contains genetically
modified organisms. Don’t we have the right to know what’s in our food
particularly when recent studies have revealed GMO foods are causing
significant health problems? He voted AGAINST middle-class tax cuts. He
voted AGAINST prohibiting indefinite detention of American citizens; seems
he thinks some American citizens don’t deserve ‘due process’ and equal
protections under the law as outlined in our US Constitution. He voted
AGAINST preserving rights for people with disabilities. He voted AGAINST
Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act. He voted AGAINST Disclose Act;
seems he thinks Democracy works better when campaign donors don’t have to
disclose limitless amounts of money they contribute to politicians like
himself. He voted AGAINST reauthorizing Violence Against Women Act. He
voted AGAINST Bring Jobs Home Act; seems he thinks it’s okay to keep
rewarding companies who exploit chattel labor abroad rather than hire
American workers.
McConnell’s top campaign contributors from 2009-2010 came from lobbyists,
as well as finance, and insurance sectors; top 20 contributors to
McConnell’s campaigns between 2003-2008 include healthcare and
pharmaceutical companies, banking and finance, Peabody Energy, GE, and
News Corp..and he’s shown his appreciation by voting in their behalf!
Senator Mitch McConnell sponsored or co-sponsored 60 earmarks totaling
$113,328,000 in fiscal year 2010, 71 earmarks totaling $159,678,325 in
fiscal year 2009, and 69 earmarks totaling $185,140,000 in fiscal year
2008. Roughly $12M in earmarks for each of these years went to benefit
New York, Utah, Alabama, and Texas, not Kentucky.
What’s the point of Kentuckians having a powerful senior Senator if he’s
going to use that power AGAINST the majority of Kentuckians?
Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after browsing through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Anyhow, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll be book-marking and checking back often!
Way cool! Some extremely valid points! I appreciate you penning this post and also the rest of the site is really good.
Mitch McConnell represents what is about as low as a politician can go !! Hopefully, he will soon be GONE forever !!!
First off I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick
question which I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing. I have had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Cheers!
Is the GOP forcing us to focus only on the second amendment to help us forget the other amendments to the US Constitution? Are they distracting us from the Climate 911 emergency so that we won’t divest from dirty energy industries that are melting our Arctic for the first time in human history? Did the dirty energy industry conspire to melt the Arctic so that they could drill dirty oil and gas from the Arctic and ship it to market in the newly melted shipping routes for the first time in human history? P.S. McConnell depends on the dirty energy industry to keep him in office, so he can’t afford for America to invest in renewable, clean energy infrastructure to free us from the horrific costs of pumping carbon into our air thoughtlessly, carelessly. Ironically, our human cash system counts the most critical flows for life the least and the least critical the most, the most deadly such as guns and war the most. Many of the GOP (and some Dems) in DC need those deadly cash-flow floods from guns and war to stay in DC.. . . .so that’s why they defend the NRA and war instead of public rights to health, “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” . . . happiness in any definition impossible to count in political cashflow floods.
