I know what you’re thinking, but it’s not a sequel to The Accidental Racist.
Louisvillian Lavel White — who is teaming up with rapper Master P and Christopher 2X on a documentary about the impact of violent crimes on youth in Louisville — told LEO via Twitter today that Sen. Rand Paul’s office reached out to him about the documentary and the possibility of a Senate hearing featuring the rapper.
White tweeted: “Life is very interesting US Senator Rand Paul’s State Director just contacted me about our Doc with Master P. Crazy!!”
He wrote to LEO that Paul will try to spearhead a Senate hearing about violence with at risk youth featuring Master P.
Contacted by phone, White declined to add any further details, later deleting the original tweet and adding “I have to learn how to stay quiet!”
Paul had a photo op at the Plymouth Community Center in the West end last Friday, part of his ongoing “outreach” efforts to minority communities. While Paul is famously known for his criticism of the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act and pretty much any kind of government spending and intervention to lift people out of poverty, his opposition to the federal Drug War that devastates the African-American community is actually 1) genuine and 2) totally justified and rational.
*** UPDATE ***
White called LEO back and now says that everything he told me is false. When asked why he gave LEO false information, he says he “misspoke.”
