After a month of waiting, we finally have our first inkling of a response from the Grimes campaign on our question as to whether or not she believes in climate change.
A campaign spokesperson tells LEO that Grimes understands the reality of climate change, but she will only support policy solutions for the problem if they protect Kentucky jobs and don’t unnecessarily hurt Kentuckians. Grimes wants federal investment in clean coal technology to help the industry remain competitive in the changing marketplace, and believes that protecting the livelihood of Kentuckians is just as important as protecting the environment.
We’ll continue to wait for Grimes to spell her climate change policy in her own words — and in detail — but it appears that we can at least mark her off the list of climate change deniers.
In the meantime, Grimes and McConnell will continue to fight over who loves coal the most, while both avoid pointing their fingers at the entity most responsible for the collapse of the coal industry in eastern Kentucky: the free market.
