Once you get over 10 solid sources saying the exact same thing, it’s time to go with it.
Sources familiar with the decision tell LEO that Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway will announce his bid for governor in 2015 tomorrow, with state Rep. Sannie Overly as his running mate. The announcement is tentatively scheduled to happen in Frankfort. Overly has quickly moved up in the ranks of House Democratic leadership, and will not have to give up her position since the gubernatorial race is in an off year.
Assuming this doesn’t get scrapped at the last second, now all eyes will be on two things: Which Democrats will come out and endorse Conway early, and when (if?) will state auditor Adam Edelen enter the Democratic primary, as well? Following the announcement by former auditor Crit Luallen that she will not run for the office, Edelen hinted that his announcement would come after his office finishes the JCPS audit. That shouldn’t be too far away.
On the Republican side, there are rumors that the battle between Hal Heiner and James Comer will soon be joined by former ambassador Cathy Bailey of Louisville.
No, there will be no break in politics in this state after the McConnell-Grimes bloodbath is over. Straight into the two-party gubernatorial bloodbath, which will happen alongside Rand Paul’s presidential run. Popcorn.
