GE sale on hold: Perhaps the only good news to come out of this recession — GE is postponing plans to sell its appliances and lighting division in Louisville because the current economy is not conducive to such a sale. At least for now, it seems there’s a safety net for the division’s 5,000 workers.

Pay up: The city will have to shell out at least $17.6 million to compensate 793 retired firefighters owed back pay, giving each an average of $22,250, The Courier-Journal reports.
