The ex-congresswoman from Louisville, who has been out of the limelight since her 2006 defeat for re-election after 10 years in the U.S. House, is to be nominated as a commissioner on the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission, the White House announced Thursday evening.

Northup was not an Obama partisan in last year’s election, so that is not why the president tapped her. Rather, her nomination was recommended to the president by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. [The C-J]
